Donald hoping 2016 leads to success he had as world No. 1

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Luke Donald started the 2016 year exactly as any player would dream, shooting a 5-under 65, highlighted by a 39-footer for eagle at the last to find his name near the top of the leaderboard in a tie for fifth and just two back of trio Ricky Barnes, Vijay Singh and Morgan Hoffmann at 7 under.

For Donald, a 38-year-old veteran, his career has taken a wrong turn after his last win at the Transitions Championship outside of Tampa in March of 2012.
