DJ's slide gives Spieth's Grand Slam bid new life

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Jordan Spieth needed two things to happen Sunday to give himself a chance to win the Open Championship.

He needed a great round.

And he needed some help from the leader.

It all worked out perfectly for the kid nicknamed Golden Child.

Spieth made seven birdies during a 6-under 66, and Dustin Johnson, the 36-hole frontrunner, failed to make a birdie in his first 14 holes in Round 3 and tumbled down the leaderboard.

All of a sudden the Spieth Slam was back on, as the 21-year-old surged from five back to only one behind heading into the final round of the Open.
