DUBLIN, Ohio – When Dustin Johnson set out on a cool and windy morning at the Memorial, he was tied for 64th and was 11 strokes out of the lead. When his eventful round ended he’d vaulted into the top 15.
Johnson was flawless on his opening nine with birdies at Nos. 2, 3 6, 7 and 9 and an eagle at No. 5 when he holed a 67-yard shot to go to 7 under for the day.
“It was good just to get a little more confidence back in the game,” said Johnson, who opened with rounds of 72-71.
