Diana Murphy sworn in as USGA's 64th president

SAN DIEGO – Escorted to the dais by former U.S. Golf Association presidents Fred Ridley and Reed Mackenzie, Diana Murphy was sworn in as its 64th president and the second female to hold that post in the association’s 121-year history, following Judy Bell, who filled the role in 1996 and 1997. The election of officers took place Feb. 6, at the USGA’s annual meeting at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, Calif.

“Never in a million years did I think I’d be doing what I’m about to do,” she later said.

Murphy, 59, began her acceptance speech by sharing a personal anecdote to explain how golf is seared into her DNA.
