It’s not often the winner takes a back seat to the runner-up and a guy winning on the Challenge Tour, but George Coetzee suffers that fate this week.
Thorbjorn Olesen, who lost to Coetzee in a playoff for the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, and Challenge Tour winner Rhys Davies relegate the South African to third in European Tour news value. Their accomplishments are arguably more significant than Coetzee winning his third European Tour title.
Olesen was making his first European Tour appearance since the Maybank Malaysian Open in February. The 25-year-old Dane has been out of the game after hand surgery.
