Jordan Spieth had enough birdies on Friday to dig himself out of a huge hole and make the cut at the Northern Trust Open, but too many mistakes ultimately kept him from the weekend.
The World No. 1 started the week by posting a disastrous 8-over 79, tied for the third-worst round in his PGA Tour career. He did considerably better at Riviera on Friday.
In his second round, Spieth fired a solid 3-under 68 to move him back in the right direction. The 22-year-old said before the day that he believed he could shoot 10 under at Riviera, and the firepower he displayed proved that he wasn't far off.
