ATLANTA – In his first round as the world’s top-ranked player, Jason Day certainly looked the part early Thursday at the Tour Championship.
The Australian birdied his first three holes to charge up the leaderboard and seemed to pick up where he left off last week at the BMW Championship, which he won by six strokes for his fourth victory in his last six starts.
That’s when things went sideways.
Day’s drive sailed right and out of bounds at the par-4 fifth hole and he took a triple bogey-7 to drop back to even par.
