Day feels back pain, but manages 68 at Barclays

EDISON, N.J. – For the man who just lifted major championship golf’s heaviest chalice, the Wanamaker Trophy, it was the simple act of moving a box from underneath his bus that nearly sent Jason Day back to the DL.

Day, who is making his first start this week at The Barclays since winning the PGA Championship, said he “tweaked” his back on Tuesday while he was moving a box, but an MRI that afternoon showed he hadn’t suffered another serious injury.

“Everything I'm doing in the gym is working. Really trying to push that disc back in,” said Day, who opened with a 2-under 68 on Thursday at Plainfield Country Club.
