Day battles flu, misses cut in Farmers title defense

SAN DIEGO – Jason Day was frustrated and annoyed after he missed the cut Friday in his title defense at the Farmers Insurance Open.

All that hard work last week in the desert was for naught after he caught the flu.

Day wasn’t even sure he would be able to play this week after spending the first few days here in bed. On Tuesday, he made two trips to a nearby hospital to receive fluids.

Day shot even-par 72 on the North Course Thursday – the first time he had touched a club since last Friday – then labored to a 74 in the second round when his lone birdie came on the par-5 finishing hole.
