Danny Willett on course to make European Ryder Cup team with win in Dubai

Danny Willett made a bold prediction as a 14-year-old. He said he would one day play in the Ryder Cup.

Willett is on course to realize that dream after winning the $2.65 million Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The 28-year-old holed a clutch 15-foot birdie putt on the final green to break out of a deadlock with fellow Englishman Andy Sullivan and Rafa Cabrera-Bello of Spain. Willett’s closing 3-under-par 69 gave him a 19-under-par 269 total.

Willett earned $450,000 for his fourth professional win. He also moved to third on the European Ryder Cup points list. He could move as high as 15th on the Official World Golf Ranking when it is updated tomorrow.
