Ben Crane was disqualified Friday from the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open after self-reporting a first-round violation to PGA Tour officials.
Crane had completed his second round in Las Vegas and was 4 under par for the event, well within the cut line. Friday evening he informed the Tour that he violated Rule 13-4 (Ball in hazard; Prohibited actions) in the opening round.
Crane took to Twitter on Saturday to explain the incident and why he reported it:
Honoring the rules of golf (even obscure ones) is 1 of the things that makes it special.
