PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Could this have been the swansong for Fred Couples at his favorite PGA Tour stop?
Couples, 56, who plies his trade primarily on the PGA Tour Champions, shot 74-72—146 to miss the cut at the Northern Trust Open in his 34th appearance at Riviera Country Club.
“Probably be my last L.A. Open,” Couples said a week ago at the Chubb Classic in Naples, Fla.
In classic Couples doubletalk, he quickly backpedaled, saying, “Well, maybe not, maybe not.”
Besides being a fan favorite, Couples remains popular among the current wave of players.
