ST. LEON-ROT, Germany – There are rules, and then there’s the spirit of the game. It’s what we do in the gray area of life that matters most, and it would seem that, in this case, Suzann Pettersen got it wrong.
The fiery Norwegian and leader of the European team in the Solheim Cup has turned this competition into the Controversial Cup. Superb play suddenly was overshadowed by an 18-inch putt that never was struck. Yes, Pettersen’s actions are protected by the Rules of Golf. But as Laura Davies said on SkySports, she’s been “very unsporting.”
“We’ve got the point,” Davies said.
