GREENSBORO, N.C. – Erik Compton withdrew from the Wyndham Championship prior to the start of the third round, citing a sore left ankle, according to the PGA Tour.
Compton held a share of the first-round lead following an 8-under 62 but struggled to a 74 on Friday.
“Unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from the [Wyndham Championship]. Couldn’t put pressure on my left foot. Hopeful for the playoffs,” he tweeted on Saturday.
Compton began the week 114th on the FedEx Cup points list and is currently projected to stay inside the top 125 and qualify for the first playoff event, next week’s Barclays.
