Colin Montgomerie entertains in wild opening round at British Open

TROON, Scotland – Colin Montgomerie is the gift to golf that just keeps giving. He did it yet again Thursday at the 145th British Open.

There was a queue of fans for the grandstands at the first hole to watch the Royal Troon member start the British Open alongside Luke Donald and Marc Leishman in the first three-ball at 6:35 a.m. local time.

Conditions were ideal. No wind, nice sunshine. Monty didn’t hit the fairway but he wasn’t far off in light rough. He was interrupted before his second shot, but not enough for him to find a greenside bunker.
