When it was over, J.D. Dornes looked over at teammate Geoff Vartelas in shock. Well, not shock, Dornes quickly corrects. The two Penn State seniors knew this squad had talent. But still, winning the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate by 10 strokes on Oct. 11 demanded a moment of appreciation and reflection.
“It’s really good to see where we were our freshman year to where we are now,” said Dornes.
Nine days later, the Nittany Lions backed it up with a second victory at the Mountaineer Collegiate. This time, Dornes said, Penn State was expected to win and got it done.
