PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Darren Clarke withdrew midway through the first round at The Players Championship because of a wrist injury.
Clarke told tournament officials that he injured his wrist on the range while warming up for his opening round at TPC Sawgrass. He opted to tee off, but the Ulsterman played 11 holes in 10 over, including two double bogeys and a triple bogey, before calling it quits.
Clarke, 46, has made only two starts this season on the PGA Tour, missing the cut at the Shell Houston Open before finishing T-52 at the Masters.
