Choosing the perfect club for gapping, trajectory

For years, one could walk the aisles at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., see the latest gear displayed and have a good idea about what each club was designed to do.

Golf equipment, and selecting a logical arsenal of clubs to fill a bag, was more of a straightforward business.

Today, things are different. Virtually every golfer carries a driver and a putter, but after that, it comes down to personal preferences. High-lofted fairway woods, hybrids, driving irons or traditional irons? Three wedges or four? Maybe a player is interested in blending cavity-backs with blades.
