The 16-year-old from Bangkok, Thailand, shot 3-under 69 on Wednesday to take a one-shot lead after 18 holes of the Yani Tseng Invitational at Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif. Last Friday, she won the Rolex Tournament of Champions by three shots in Greensboro, Ga.
Tavatanakit, a Class of 2017 golfer who is committed to UCLA, was 6 under with eight birdies after 14 holes on Wednesday. However, she closed her round with bogey at the par-3 17th hole and double bogey at the par-5 18th.
