Charles Huntzinger may have just finished his freshman year at Penn State, but born in Duluth, Ga., he is a Georgia boy at heart.
On Saturday, Huntzinger notched a big summer amateur victory back near his hometown. A final-round, 4-under 68 left Huntzinger at 17 under at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, and that was good enough for Huntzinger to win the Dogwood Invitational by a shot.
It wasn’t easy, though. That’s because Lipscomb’s Dawson Armstrong, the defending champ, shot a closing 65 to nearly pull off the victory. Armstrong made nine birdies and played his final 12 holes in 8 under, but ended up T-2 along with Raul Pereda and Anthony Quayle.
