EDISON, N.J. – Back in Guadalajara, there is a saying inside the Ortiz home. “No news is bad news,” Graciela Ortiz said.
“The boys, if they don’t play well, they won’t call right away.”
Saturday morning, Graciela or her husband, Carlos, weren’t about to get a phone call, only on this day there was no reason to expect one. They walked along at Plainfield Country Club as the oldest of their three sons torched the venerable layout to the tune of 8-under 62.
From a share of 50th, the 24-year-old PGA Tour rookie signed his card, knowing he was at 7-under 203 and tied for the lead at The Barclays with Bubba Watson, who at about that very moment was warming up to play his third round.
