Cancer survivor Jarrod Lyle returns to Tour with fitness and renewed focus

With the 2014-15 PGA Tour season in the record books and the two-week “offseason” ended, it’s a quick turnaround to the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

Australian Jarrod Lyle hardly can wait until he tees it up Thursday at the Frys.com Open at Silverado Country Club’s North Course in Napa, Calif., playing on a sponsor exemption.

Lyle, 34, a two-time cancer survivor, struggled in his return to the PGA Tour last season after a second bout with myeloid leukemia. He missed seven consecutive cuts, from the Humana Challenge in late January through the Wells Fargo Championship in mid-May, before finally qualifying for a weeked at the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial in late May.
