Callaway has updated last season’s Chrome Soft ball, attempting in 2016 to enhance the ball without sacrificing the soft feel built into the original.
Last season’s Chrome Soft was a three-piece ball. Callaway made the new Chrome Soft a four-piece design that incorporates a soft inner core, slightly firmer outer core, a mantle layer and a urethane cover.
Dave Bartels, Callaway senior director of golf ball research and development, said the advantage to designing the Chrome Soft with a dual-core design is engineers can opt for a very soft inner core within a firmer layer.
