Garry Hanchera, who caddied for Gene Jones at Champions Tour Q-School last week, passed away Friday after collapsing and suffering an apparent heart attack during the final round of play.
Hanchera, 64, was in the fairway on No. 15 at TPC Scottsdale's Champions Course when he collapsed. Mike Goodes, one of Jones' playing partners, immediately began CPR and compressions on Hanchera until a caddie in the group ahead took over. An EMT team came in and attempted to revive Hanchera with a defibrillator for 30 minutes before transporting him via ambulance to HonorHealth Scottsdale Hospital.
Despite their efforts, Hanchera was pronounced dead at the hospital about an one hour after being transported from the golf course.
