SAN MARTIN, Calif. – Christina Kim grew up in nearby San Jose and estimates she has helped 200 family and friends purchase tickets to see her in the U.S. Women’s Open this week.
“That’s why I’m playing so hard,” Kim joked after opening with a 2-under-par 70. “I have to pay for that.”
Kim says her childhood home is about 18 miles north of CordeValle Golf Club. She never played the course growing up, but said her friends used to rave about “the $11 hot dogs they got at the turn.”
Kim grew up playing at Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club, a public course that was torn up when the San Francisco 49ers built their new stadium.
