ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Jonathan Byrd swept his hand over his head and gushed, “I can't imagine a prettier day to play golf,” he said.
Byrd was referring to the perfect weather that led to record scoring at the RSM Classic, but his praise could also apply to his Day 1 round.
The St. Simons Island resident made five birdies in a six-hole stretch starting at the second hole on his way to a bogey-free 62 and a share of second place at his hometown event. It was Byrd’s lowest round on the PGA Tour and his son, Jackson, was the first to congratulate him.
