By the numbers: WGC-Match Play field

A little of this, some of that while reading both the Official World Golf Ranking and the entry list for the upcoming WGC-Match Play Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco:

• Winning a PGA Tour event in 2014-15 has provided a financial windfall and other perks, but not a spot into the second WGC of the year. Sangmoon Bae (Frys.com Open), Robert Streb (McGladrey Classic), Nick Taylor (Sanderson Farms Championship), James Hahn (Northern Trust Open), Padraig Harrington (Honda Classic) and Alex Cejka (Puerto Rico Open) are all tournament winners who did not qualify.

• As for those who have tumbled badly in the OWGR since last year, consider that in February of 2014 they were in the Match Play, but now they sit well outside: David Lynn, 335th; Matteo Manassero, 262nd; Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, 173rd; Richard Sterne, 154th; Thorbjorn Olesen, 107th.
