Sam Burns is going to miss AJGA tournaments.
The top-ranked junior in both the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings and Polo Golf Junior Rankings is beginning the final summer of his junior-golf career. He has finished in the top 5 in each of his last six AJGA starts, and he can make that seven straight this week at the Thunderbird International Junior.
Through 36 holes of the 54-hole event at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., Burns leads by two shots over Sahith Theegala, Hidetoshi Yoshihara and Koichiro Ishika. The LSU signee carded a bogey-free, 6-under 66 Saturday, capping his round with three straight birdies.
