ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – Many legendary names have blazed a trail through the royal & ancient game. Will Bryson DeChambeau one day join an illustrious club that includes Harry Vardon, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods?
Don’t bet against it.
DeChambeau is certainly making a name for himself on his first trip to the Middle East.
The 22-year-old amateur returned an 8-under-par 64 in the opening round of the $2.7 million Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship to take an early one-shot lead over Sweden’s Henrik Stenson. Don’t be surprised if DeChambeau goes on to become the first amateur to win the first leg of the European Tour’s Desert Swing.
