NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — A 9-year-old Brittany Lincicome wasn’t trying to make a statement when she hit from the men’s tees in her first official round of golf. The only reason she played the par-3 course that day was to hang out with her father and her two older brothers, whom she idolized.
Lincicome was the quintessential kid sister, shadowing her siblings and swinging from her heels to try to keep up. Before long, her brothers were the ones chasing her. Lincicome, a Florida native, played from the back tees through high school, where she held the No. 1 spot on the boys’ team, and she does the same these days in practice rounds with her husband, Dewald Gouws, a former long-drive champion.
