NBC Sports Group is back in the major-championship business.
Less than two years after losing the television rights to U.S. Golf Association championships, NBC landed a 12-year deal with the R&A to air the Open Championship in the United States beginning in 2017 at Royal Birkdale.
The agreement also includes the rights to the Senior Open, the Ricoh Women’s British Open, the Amateur Championship, and the biennial Walker Cup and Curtis Cup.
In a statement, Peter Dawson, chief executive of the R&A, lauded NBC for its “unparalleled experience in golf” and “genuine desire to showcase and promote The Open and The R&A’s elite championships through (its) extensive range of channels and digital platforms.
