British Open 2015: As Scores Drop, Paul Dunne, an Amateur, Rises to Top

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — Decent weather — or at least what passes for it in this town along the North Sea — arrived at the Old Course on Sunday, leading to a slew of low scores in the third round of the British Open.

It seemed the only golfer not capitalizing on the vulnerable course was the 36-hole leader, Dustin Johnson, who made par after par after par while the golfers who started the day behind him were piling up birdies.

By the end of a wild third round, Paul Dunne, a 22-year-old Irish amateur; Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 champion here; and Jason Day shared the lead at 12 under.
