SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – It’s no secret that Jason Day is among the longest hitters on a tour that is often defined by the long ball, but on Sunday at Whistling Straits even Jordan Spieth was impressed by the Australian’s prodigious drives.
The newly-minted world No. 1 was particularly taken by Day’s drive on the par-5 11th hole, a 382-yard effort that set up a pitching wedge approach and easy birdie opportunity.
“We got to our balls in the 11th fairway and Jordan said, ‘Are you kidding me?’” said Colin Swatton, Day’s caddie and swing coach.
