It was a rough day for the anchor group at the Valero Texas Open.
Ricky Barnes began the final round at TPC San Antonio with a one-shot lead, hoping to close strong and secure his first PGA Tour win in his 222nd career start. Instead, the 35-year-old bogeyed the opening hole, never truly factored and signed for a 2-over 74.
Barnes made only one birdie on the front nine, and he was 4 over on his round through 12 holes. While birdies on Nos. 13 and 18 helped him secure some extra cash and a season-best T-4 finish, he still ended up three shots behind the eventual winner, Charley Hoffman.
