Allenby will return to scene of the crime and play Sony Open

KAPALUA, Hawaii – In a surprise move, Robert Allenby will return to Honolulu to open his 2016 schedule at the Sony Open next week.

Allenby, who claimed that he was mugged after having missed the cut in the 2015 Sony Open, told police that he had been kidnapped and awoke in a nearby park with his wallet and money missing.

After weeks of media coverage cast doubt on some parts of Allenby’s recollection of events, Honolulu police announced the arrest of Owen Patrick Harbison, 32, who was charged with numerous counts of identity theft. Harbison, of Hawaii, pleaded guilty in June to using Allenby’s credit cards and identification to make purchases that included gift cards, jewelry and clothing, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
