After son's surgery, Jacobson regains full status

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Freddie Jacobson came up short on the weekend at the RSM Classic in his quest for his second PGA Tour title, but he was almost as pleased with the consolation prize.

Jacobson missed the final four months of last season to be at home with his son, Max, who underwent open-heart surgery on Aug. 3. When he returned to the Tour this season, he had 11 events to earn $326,211 and regain his full status under a major medical/family crisis exemption.

It turns out he only needed five tournaments to secure his playing status and some peace of mind going into the circuit’s winter break.
