After Portland title, Brooke Henderson granted LPGA membership

The wait is over. Brooke Henderson, 17, is now a member of the LPGA. On Monday evening in Vancouver, Henderson met with her family and management team and made the decision to petition the tour for immediate membership. LPGA commissioner Mike Whan approved her petition on Tuesday.

LPGA rules require that players under the age of 18 petition the commissioner for permission to join. The decision was at Whan’s sole discretion. Henderson could’ve also deferred membership to 2016.

“After reviewing Brooke Henderson’s petition, I have granted her LPGA Tour membership beginning immediately,” Whan said Tuesday. “Brooke will compete out of Category 7 on the 2015 LPGA Priority List for the remainder of this season and also for the 2016 season.
