An elderly spectator attending the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, died on Friday.
According to Fox 6 News, the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the site of the 117th U.S. Open responding to reports of a death on the grounds.
Angelica Sanchez of Fox 6 reported the spectator died near hole No. 6.
A cause of death has yet to be announced.
"The USGA was saddened to learn that a spectator at Erin Hills passed away a short time ago," the United States Golf Association said in a statement, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.
