After another terrific season by All-Star SG Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors are looking to sign him to an extension this offseason.
Reports are that Klay could also be looking to save Golden State a ton of money in order to keep their current super team together. If Thompson were to sign a max deal this offseason rather than next, he could save the Warriors over $80 million to allot to Kevin Durant as well as Draymond Green over the next 2 offseasons.
The Warriors were lucky that Kevin Durant took a home team discount last offseason, which allowed the team to sign Steph Curry to a supermax contract as well as bring back Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala. Durant will be looking for a full max contract with the team to keep the “Death Lineup” together for years to come.
Klay Thompson shot a career high 48% from the field this year despite missing 9 games. He scored 20 points per game this year, down from 22.3 in 2016.
