The NBA Draft is over and the Golden State Warriors have turned their complete attention to the start of free agency on July 1. The Warriors have some cap space and will try to add a big name this offseason. Here are all the latest Warriors rumors and news and you need to know.
Warriors' Pursuit of Durant
Like nearly every team around the Association, the Warriors want Kevin Durant. Two different pieces from The Oklahoman give the Warriors a real chance at landing Durant. Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman calls the Warriors the main challenger for Durant (with the Thunder the favorite). Meanwhile, an agent told The Oklahoman that Golden State and the Miami Heat are "the only real players" to lure Durant away. So while the Thunder are the favorites, the Warriors are a real threat.
Others The Warriors Are Targeting
Durant is at the top of list, but the Warriors have several other players they're looking at. Marcus Thompson of the San Jose Mercury News has a few of those names.
According to sources familiar with free agent talks, the Warriors are looking at Al Horford, Joakim Noah and even Hassan Whiteside. The contract demands might be too hefty but the goal is clear. The Warriors can't thrive with a center that doesn't attack the rim or score inside.
Free agents Nicolas Batum and Evan Turner are among the players being considered at small forward, per sources, if the Warriors don't get Kevin Durant. Which means the Warriors will be taking a long, hard look at if they can do better than Harrison Barnes.
To be sure, the Warriors are not going to throw Barnes away. His ill-timed slump in the NBA Finals hasn't wiped away his defensive versatility and his well-timed big games leading up to the Finals.
The Warriors have said they plan to be aggressive. Durant is the main target, but the Warriors are willing to completely overhaul their bench this offseason.
