The Golden State Warriors fully expect to re-sign all of their key players from this past season's championship run, with the top priorities being Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.
Durant is expected to take less money in order to make it all work, which he still plans do. However, it will likely be in a one-year deal so he can earn the money back over time, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
Durant's situation is a little complicated, but what you need to know is that if he's willing to accept a salary of $31.8 million for next season instead of his "max" of about $34.7 million, then the Warriors will be freed up to re-sign their key players. Durant has indicated he will do just that and the Warriors will be kept together, though Durant will probably take another one-year contract with a player option for next season for procedural reasons so he can recoup the money long-term.
Golden State is expected to sign Curry to a five-year deal worth roughly $201 million first, then will focus on their other free agents.
Andre Iguodala, Ian Clark, Shaun Livingston, JaVale McGee, David West, Zaza Pachulia, James Michael McAdoo and Matt Barnes are all unrestricted free agents, and while not all will be able to return to the Warriors, Golden State is placing a priority on their rotation players. By taking less money, Durant will give them needed flexibility. He will also wait until late July to re-sign.
Of that group, Iguodala has received the most interest from other teams.
Durant averaged 25.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season.
