We’re in the beginning stages of the Golden State Warriors' offseason preparations, and there are plenty of plots and subplots to follow during July’s free agent push. The Dubs are looking to add some pieces to strengthen their team, but signing the wrong player or two could send them in the wrong direction. Here are three free agents they should avoid:
Marco Belinelli
Golden State was the best three-point shooting team in the NBA last season, but that's not going to stop them from adding more shooters to their lineup. According to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, the Warriors are interested in Marco Belinelli, who's a career 39 percent three-point shooter. Golden State drafted Belinelli 18th overall in 2007, but traded him to Toronto after two seasons. However, he has seen in minutes (and impact) drop in recent years, and the Warriors don't want to spend a good amount of money on someone who's going to ride the bench.
Tayshaun Prince
Golden State is looking to add more wing depth, and Prince is a veteran they like - if they can get him for the right price. The Warriors are hoping to pitch the 35-year-old on the idea of playing for a contender as his career winds down, though Prince has been quiet about his plans. However, the Warriors already have plenty of aging vets with limited athleticism, and Prince likely wouldn't see much playing time.
J.J. Barea
Barea is an backup point guard the Warriors are looking at, but he also needs the ball in his hands a ton to make a real impact on the court. Add in the fact that he's one of the smallest players in the league, and there simply wouldn't be enough room for him to have the kind of impact you'd be paying him to have.
