After acquired Chris Paul, the Houston Rockets have remained in trade negotiations with the New York Knicks about a trade that would send Carmelo Anthony to Houston.
They think that a "Big 3" of Paul, Anthony and James Harden would compete with the Golden State Warriors at the top of the Western Conference, and apparently, they aren't the only ones. Klay Thompson's father, Mychal, told TMZ that the Rockets would be a "serious" threat to the Warriors.
Klay Thompson's dad, Mychal, says the Warriors better hope the Carmelo Anthony trade is dead, 'cause if the Rockets get Melo, they'll be a legit threat to dethrone his son's team.
"You add Carmelo Anthony to Chris Paul and James Harden, you gotta take them serious."
The Knicks have stopped negotiating a Carmelo trade with the Rockets after talks stalled due to the salary cap complications involved in such a deal. The trade would have been completed if New York was willing to take on Ryan Anderson's contract. However, the Knicks refused to do so, and they were unable to find another team willing to take on the three years and $60 million he has left on his contract.
New York is now talking to Anthony about staying with the franchise, but he can opt out of his contract after the season.
Anthony averaged 22.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this past season.
