The Golden State Warriors have found every which way to win over an NBA record winning streak to the start the regular season, including both close calls and blowouts. Golden State had a little bit of both on Sunday in Brooklyn, but they once again closed things out in a 114-98 win over the Nets.
Golden State is now 22-0, and has won 26 straight overall over the course of two regular seasons. They're one game behind the 2012-13 Miami Heat for 2nd place all time for winning streaks which bridge two seasons.
The Warriors jumped out to a 30-16 lead after one, smothering Nets shooters on the perimeter while hitting pretty much every open shot that came their way. It appeared Golden State would coast from there against a Nets team that was nine games over .500 heading into the game, but Brooklyn would make it interesting if only for a time.
A 12-0 Nets run at the end of the 2nd quarter shaved the Warriors lead to three at the half. Brooklyn would then take the lead in the third, putting a scare into the smattering of vocal Warriors fans at the Barclays Center.
Stephen Curry wouldn't be denied though, scoring 16 of his 28 points in the frame and catching on fire before the whistle to help the Warriors push the lead back to seven at the end of three. The Warriors bench picked up the slack from there, putting together a 22-9 run with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson resting (including some dead-eye shooting from Mo Speights) to extend the advantage to 109-89 with just under five minutes to go. That effectively shut the door, as the Warriors backpedaled to the win from there.
The Warriors went 14 of 33 from three (42.4%) and 44 of 86 from the field overall (51.2%). The Nets couldn't match Golden State's shooting prowess, hitting under 30% of their shots from downtown. Golden State has scored 100 points in every game this year.
Golden State is 4-0 on their current seven-game road trip. They'll aim for 23-0 in game five on Tuesday in Indiana against a Pacers team that's lost two in a row after as six-game winning streak. Tipoff is slated for 4:00pm PST at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
