Golden State Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton isn't getting credit on his coaching record for Golden State's 19-0 start due to an obscure NBA rule, but the league announced that Walton will be eligible for awards, including NBA Coach of the Month.
Head coach Steve Kerr, who took an indefinitely leave of absence prior to the season to recover from two offseason back surgery, technically gets credit for the19-0 start in the NBA history books, which he didn't agree with.
"I think it's ridiculous," Kerr told ESPN. "I'm sitting in the locker room and watching the games on TV, and I'm not even traveling to most of the road games. Luke's doing all the work with the rest of the staff. Luke is [19-0] right now. I'm not. So it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, to be honest with you. I don't even understand it."
Walton doesn't feel the same way.
"Steve's done a lot for me," he said. "It's the least I can do to add a couple wins on his total for him with all he's done for me."
Golden State, who broke the record for best start to a season in NBA history, will try to go for 20-0 on Wednesday night in Charlotte against the Hornets.
