We're in the beginning stages of the 2015 NBA free agency period, and the Golden State Warriors are one of the most intriguing teams out there when it comes to the wheelings and dealings on the market. Here's a snapshot of their current free agency plans.
Lakers A David Lee Trade Partner If Primary Free-Agent Options Fall Through?
The Los Angeles Lakers remain a fringe contender for most of the marquee frontcourt options left in free agency, so there's a chance they could look north to the Warriors for some help via trade.
According to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News via Twitter, "Perhaps Lakers pursue David Lee in a trade. Lee’s time likely over w/ Warriors amid reduced role. But GSW doesn’t want to take back salary."
Lee is due over $15 million for 2015-16 -- the last season of a six-year, $79.5 million deal.
If Not The Lakers...
The Knicks could be a suitor to bring their former star back into the fold.
According to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, the "Knicks have had discussions about reacquiring Lee. But they had to explore all FA options first. It’s a possibility. David Lee remains very popular with Knicks fans. Many didn’t want to see him go back in 2010, when they signed Amare. Would be good PR, too. To those asking: Teams w/cap room wouldn’t have to give up much to get Lee from GSW. They want to shed his salary, minimize tax hit."
Other sources have indicated that the Warriors are not hellbent on dealing Lee if the right deal doesn't come up, so this will be an interesting situation to monitor as the days go on.
David West Has His Eyes On The Spurs, Warriors
Per USA Today, "West is willing to put his money where his mouth is – even if he loses quite a bit of it in the process. According to a person with knowledge of his situation, the free agent forward who declined a $12.2 million player option to stay with the Indiana Pacers next season, has serious interest in playing for the San Antonio Spurs or the Golden State Warriors. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the free agency process."
The veteran power forward has been openly critical of the Pacers in recent days, with the team's handling of trade talks regarding center Roy Hibbert drawing his public ire.
