In a battle between the top two teams in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors cruised to an easy 120-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors scored the first basket of the game and never trailed the rest of the way. Stephen Curry led the way for the Warriors, who have now won 39 straight home games dating back to last season.
The Spurs (38-7) had won six of the last seven games against the Warriors and were in the midst of a 13-game winning streak. However, the Warriors (41-4) dominated the Spurs all night long, emphatically proving the Warriors are still the team to beat in the Western Conference.
Curry had 37 points, leading all scorers. He was 12 of 20 from the field and hit 6 of 9 three pointers. He also added four assists and five steals. The Warriors pulled Curry with a minute to go in the third quarter, with the Warriors up 92-65.
Draymond Green nearly had a double-double for the Warriors, posting 11 points and nine rebounds. Six players had double-digits for the Warriors.
The Spurs were without Tim Duncan, and it was David West, not LaMarcus Aldridge who led the Spurs' bigs. West had 12 points and five rebounds. Aldridge had just five points and three rebounds on 2 of 9 shooting.
Kawhi Leonard had 16 points to lead the Spurs. Only Leonard and West topped 10 points for the Spurs.
The Spurs were down 62-47 in the first half, giving up the most points in the first half they have all season. Things were even worse in the third quarter, with the Warriors leading by as many as 30. Both teams pulled their key starters for the fourth quarter and were on autopilot the rest of the way.
The Spurs return home to face the Houston Rockets Wednesday night. The Warriors stay in Oracle Arena Wednesday night, hosting the Dallas Mavericks.
