The Golden State Warriors are the first NBA team to start 16-0, setting the record for the best start to a season with an easy 111-77 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors went on a 15-0 run in the first quarter and never looked back.
Draymond Green and Stephen Curry continued to lead the Warriors. Curry found his groove in the third quarter, finishing with 24 points and nine assists. Green had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Those could have added to their stats, but interim head coach Luke Walton wisely sat his stars in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors put on a passing clinic, especially in the first half. The Warriors hit 22 field goals in the first 24 minutes, assisting on 19 of them. The opposite was true for the Lakers, who had a meager four assists in the first half. They failed to record a single one in first quarter and are now a woeful 3-11.
The Warriors stretched their lead to 22 at one point in the first half, although the Lakers cut it to 54-38 at the half. Golden State used 10 different players in the first half and every one scored. The Warriors led by 34 points at the end of the third quarter.
Kobe Bryant's struggles continued, as he posted one of the worst games of his career. He had just four points, hitting one of 14 shots from the field.
Golden State's record start has come despite struggles from Klay Thompson. He was just 3 of 12 from the field in the game, although he did score 11 points.
The Warriors look to extend their mark to 17-0 when they hit the road and face the Phoenix Suns on Friday. The Lakers will try to snap a four game losing streak Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
