The Golden State Warriors have gotten off to a historic 12-0 start this season despite the absense of their head coach, Steve Kerr, who took an indefinite leave of absence before the season to recover from two offseason back surgeries. He made a regular season road trip for the first time this season, traveling with the team to Los Angeles, but general manager Bob Myers said that doesn't mean he's close to returning to the sidelines.
“I think the better question or more pertinent is once he starts being more engaged in practice or feeling up to it or starts asking me something like, ‘Hey, when do you think I should go back?’” Myers said.
Assistant coach Luke Walton has taken over the head coaching role with Kerr sidelined, and he said he was happy to have Kerr around the team again.
“It’s great,” Walton said. “He delivered a phenomenal message to the guys today. It’s nice having him here and around instead of at home all the time.”
The Warriors' 12-0 start is tied with the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls for the second-best start by a defending champion, trailing just the 1957-58 Boston Celtics' 14-0 start. The 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets hold the record for the best start to a season in NBA history with 15-0 marks.
Golden State's next game is tonight against the LA Clippers.
