It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Then again, so did the McLobster.
According to Canada’s Financial Post, about this time last year, Chuck Coolen, head of marketing for McDonald’s in Eastern Canada, was finalizing a sponsorship deal. The deal was this — every time the Toronto Raptors made 12 or more 3-pointers in a game, all Ontario-based McDonald’s restaurants would give away free medium-sized orders of french fries.
What could possibly go wrong?
Plenty, it turns out. Eighteen days after closing the deal, Coolen learned the Raptors had acquired Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green from the San Antonio Spurs for DeMar DeRozan and assorted flotsam and jetsam.
